To my knowledge, brightness/contrast/opacity/etc is something that may be worked on in the near future. I will update this when I get more information!

MAPLESTORY: DESIGN

EDITED: 1.9.18

There is an easier way to get exploded parts!!

For those who use Paint.net: (If you don't, scroll further down)
1. Download the plugin: forums.getpaint.net/topic/3199…
2. Download the layered spritesheet too.
Screenshot 1 by Fluffycloudkit

Insert the 3 files from the plugin into your paint.net \ FileTypes

Screenshot 2 by Fluffycloudkit

Now open up your paint.net > layers > import from file > open up the frame you want

Screenshot 5 by Fluffycloudkit

Screenshot 3 by Fluffycloudkit

And there we go! Exploded and aligned!!

Screenshot 4 by Fluffycloudkit

For those who use Photoshop, GIMP, etc:
You can still utilize the layered spritesheet. It'll look like the regular spritesheet, but instead each pose will be in a zip file. Just extract the zip file, and the exploded parts will be there!

Another way to "explode" sprites

To get the exploded parts, click on the quick view function on the site.
New 1 by Fluffycloudkit
It will direct you to Maplestory Wiki (another service created by Crrio!)
Click on "View Technical Details" and the sprites should show up on the right!
New 2 by Fluffycloudkit
Just right click on the sprites to save them. If you need the exploded body parts, download them from here  ALL SPRITES FOR BANNEDSTORY BODIES by Bathtoys (Thank you Bathtoys for them!)

Hey hey! This is a (hopefully) a simple tutorial on what I use to get the MS sprites. I don't mind getting the sprites for people, but in case you want to do it yourself for the sake of time (since it takes me a while to respond and all), then here it is! I'll be showing you how I use each program, and take you through extracting a clothes sprite!

Programs You Will Need:
HaRepacker (To extract the sprites)
GM Handtool  (Help locate the sprites, thanks to Bathtoys for linking me the newest version!)
- Download Maplestory

1) GM HANDTOOL
The program itself is pretty self explanatory. It shows all the items and IDs, which is crucial later on since we need it to locate the sprites in HaRepacker.

When you first open the program, it will look like this:

5 by Fluffycloudkit

Click on the empty square by Maplestory Folder and locate your Maplestory Appdata folder. Usually it's Nexon > library > maplestory > appdata. Click ok and press load WZ.

1 by Fluffycloudkit

It should then look like this:

6 by Fluffycloudkit

IMPORTANT: IF YOU GO ON A DIFFERENT TAB (LIKE PANTS FOR EXAMPLE), YOU NEED TO PRESS LOAD WZ AGAIN FOR THE SPRITES TO SHOW!

2) HAREPACKER
Download the program and open it. If you see this, then just press "ok"
7 by Fluffycloudkit

Go to File > Open. Then locate your wz files. Typically they're in (Nexon > library > maplestory > appdata)

10 by Fluffycloudkit

You'll see something like this. It takes a while to load so don't worry if it seems like the program crashed! Double click on Character.wz to open up the branches under it.

8 by Fluffycloudkit

So let's say you want this sprite right here.

3 by Fluffycloudkit

Scroll down to where it says Longcoat (which is the overall. Coat is the top, rest is self explanatory). Double click Longcoat and a bunch of new items should pop up.

4 by Fluffycloudkit

Now locate the sprite (ID 01052838). Once you do, double click it once again this should pop up! Looking familiar now? I went to Alert > 0 > mail to make sure I had the correct sprite. (Though rarely, sometimes the ID given by GM Handtool doesn't match the ID in HaRepacker).

11 by Fluffycloudkit

We're almost done! Go to Tools > Export Selection > PNG\MP3. (Make sure you have the ID number (01052838) selected!)

14 by Fluffycloudkit

Find a place where you want to save the sprites, and you're done!

13 by Fluffycloudkit

IMPORTANT NOTE: With the way the Maple wz. files are structured, there are no duplicates when it comes to sprites (for the most part anyways). That's why some files like shoot.1.1.mail is a transparent pixel. Like how some alert and heal poses are the same, they don't add the same sprite to both alert and heal poses. What they'd do is have the sprite on the alert pose, and for the heal poses, they would redirect it, like so.

15 by Fluffycloudkit

Smart and efficient on Nexon's half, but it makes things a tad bit more complicated for us. This is also the reason why on Momiji, some sprites aren't shown. The application reads the wz. as it is, but it doesn't seem to have a redirect function in it! That's why there's a bunch of poses, faces, and etc incomplete!

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that not all the eyes show up in GM Handtool. You can also use momiji to retrieve the ID numbers!

And that's it guys! I hope this tutorial was easy to understand. You can use the same method to extract hats, maps, accessories, etc. If there's any questions, feel free to comment below! Have fun extracting sprites and good luck creating those spritesheets! Feel free to share and link the journal to other places~

My Offer

4 min read

So it seems that BS4 has been Permanently taken down. More info on the video below. vvvv

Since it's been taken down, my offer is that if anyone needs any clothes sprites, or anything really, just comment down below and I'll do my best to help you gather it. I can't help create spritesheets, but the least I can do is provide the materials for you to create your own.

prntscr.com/fey2em <-- this is an example of what I can do.

EDITED: The sprites I have are the original, unedited ones, so if you changed its hue/saturation/etc on BS4, you will have to manually edit it on Paint.Net or something to get the color you desire!
